Low Carb Diet Plans: Are They Safe?

Many people have found great success losing weight using low carb diet plans. However, there has always been a bit of controversy as to whether these diets are safe or not. Our bodies need carbohydrates to survive, so cutting them out entirely is not a good idea and is dangerous. However, restricting the wrong kinds of carbs may be a beneficial way to lose weight.

There are side effects to low carbohydrate diets, such as bad breath. Some people also report headaches and nausea as side effects as well. Most of the time, these side affects appear to be short lived, however for some people they may last for the first few weeks. If you slip up and eat something you should not have eaten, you may then experience these ill effects all over again.

Another point of contention about these diets is that some people use them as an excuse to eat a lot of “bad fats” that can clog up the arteries. There is no good answer for this one as doctors still disagree on the effects low carb diet plans may have on the heart long term.

There are other concerns about very low carb diets. One would be that most of these diets eliminate or limit the amount of fruits (and some vegetables) that a person can consume. Our bodies need a variety of essential vitamins and minerals to survive, and fruits have a lot of these components. By eliminating fruits and some veggies from your diet, you do run the risk of injuring your health by creating deficiencies.

.Before considering low carb diet plans, make sure that you speak with your doctor to weigh all of the pros and cons. You will then need to choose a plan that you find to be reasonable for your lifestyle.
